Now that you have been diagnosed with high cholesterol, where do you go from here? One of the first steps in making a healthy lifestyle change is to rethink your eating habits. Go into that fridge and do a complete overhaul. Visit a dietician or nutritionist. If it helps, invite a friend over and go through your fridge together.
Believe it or not, there are ways to eat for our heart. What we eat and how we eat it can make a big difference in keeping our arteries either clog-free or clogged up. For example, eat more fish that contains omega-3 fatty acids, and eat more soy and tofu, fiber,
garlic, onions, fruits, and veggies. Stay away from foods high in fats and sugars, avoid soft drinks, be a super snacker, or simply eat smaller portions. Keep track of those calories
and stay on track.
While you're at it, develop an interest in your nutritional health and be proactive by doing some research. Learn what's out there about what good foods to eat, find out more about organic foods, try the DASH diet, and keep updated on what's new in nutrition.
